Death Stranding: The BB Memories You Were Not Meant to Find

Death Stranding’s Bridge Baby — BB — carries fragments of memory from the Seam, the liminal space between life and death. These manifest as brief audio-visual flashbacks that trigger when Sam rests in a Private Room. Most players see two or three.

There are 81 BB memories in the game. Collecting all of them requires specific delivery completion, time spent resting, and interaction with particular MULE camps and BT zones. The final memories reveal BB’s experience of the Death Stranding event from inside the womb — its perspective on the cataclysm that caused the extinction event, rendered in abstract imagery.

Kojima Productions built these memories as the emotional throughline of the game, but structured them so that only players who engaged fully with the delivery mechanics — the part of the game that critics most divided over — would access the complete picture.

The final memory is unlocked after completing the game’s true ending and contains BB’s only moment of genuine joy in the entire narrative: a single image that recontextualises every prior scene.

  1. The detail work the devs put into areas most players never visit is what separates great games from good ones.
